Review: A Night at Achanakmar
A Night at Achanakmar by Paromita Goswami
My rating: 3 of 5 stars
“The oldest and strongest emotion of mankind is fear, and the oldest and strongest kind of fear is fear of the unknown”
― H.P. Lovecraft, Supernatural Horror in Literature
The supernatural is fascinating and terrifying. It is fear of the dead or unknown which draws us but at the same time make us squirm with terror. “A Night at Achanakmar” by Paromita Goswami is one such novella.
Couple of families are trying to get to a reserve forest. The are lost and somehow reach there very late in the evening. They are hungry and tired and then a village boy helps them to find the forest guest house. All sort of strange things start happening there.
The story is a quick, breezy read and can be finished in one sitting. The atmosphere is creepy and the tension is real. However, I expected something more in the guest house. Recommended for horror enthusiast.
